ANNUAL REPORT 2018

2018 was a big year for Simply Cups Australia.

It took us 12 months to collect our first million cups, and only 8 months to collect an additional two million.

I want to thank our partners for helping make this program possible. Your support, as well as the cups collected at your collection points has enabled us to prove that cups can be collected and recycled in Australia. This would not be possible without like-minded partners that care, and want to be part of inventing the solution.

Last year we made leaps and bounds in upcycling, and created many upcycled products, some that are now for sale. Our next key challenge is to sell upcycled products at scale, because the recycling doesn’t happen when you put an object into a recycling bin, it happens when you give that object a new life.

Best Regards,

Rob Pascoe

UPCYCLING CUPS

Recycling doesn't just happen when you discard an object into a recycling bin. It happens when you give that object a second life.

Upcycling is when waste is transformed into new materials or products of better quality and better environmental value.

Closed Loop have invested in new technologies capable of upcycling coffee cups, which cannot be processed at traditional recycling facilities.

The collected cups are bailed, stored and processed into upcycled products.

UPCYCLING INNOVATION

Anything can be recycled, and we believe there are no limits to what can be upcycled.

Closed Loop is continuously investing, developing and prototyping new upcycled products we aim to bring to market.

We're looking for innovative businesses wanting to be part of the story of being the first to upcycle new products.

SIMPLY CUPS GOALS FOR 2019

DIVERT MORE CUPS FROM LANDFILL

Our target is 100 million cups.

We aim to reach 10 million cups in 2019.

MORE UPCYCLING

Deploy more products with upcycled cups, including new products moving from prototype to production.

EDUCATE THE MARKET

Coffee cups can be recycled. But only at Simply Cups collection points.

BETTER REPORTING

Deliver more interactive, and more public reporting on collection numbers.

QUARTERLY COLLECTION POSTERS

Provide sites with a PDF poster they can print to tell the world how many cups are saved at that site.

COLLECTION VARIETY

We care planning to offer more choice for your collection points with a variety of tubes and bins.

Custom branding will be an option, however our policy is that we only collect cups from locations that have Simply Cups branding.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

and help close the loop on coffee cups

Set up a collection service at your workplace or school and help save millions of cups from landfill.

*Muffin Break and Simply Cups will work to progressively build up the number of cups recycled through their partnership, with the aim of reaching one cup recycled for every takeaway cup sold through Muffin Break stores by June 2019
