Welcome to our 3rd Simply Cups Annual Report

Thanks to your support, 2020 resulted in Simply Cups adding more collection points, partnering with more upcycling solutions, and together we have now rescued more than 15 million cups from landfill.

Simply Cups a recycling success story because we have so many fantastic partners who truly want be part of the solution. We are so grateful for your support and I wanted to thank you all for helping us establish and grow Australia’s first cup recycling program.

Thanks to our cup collection partners for your support and your cups.

We now have collection points in office buildings, shopping centres, cafes across Australia. I’d especially like to thank 7-Eleven, Muffin Break and The Coffee Club for sponsoring Simply Cups as Program Partners.

A big thanks to our Logistics Partner Shred-X, who help us collect and store cups prior to re-processing. As well as our growing number of upcycling technology partners who keep finding innovative ways to transform used cups into items of higher value.

Together we are transforming our waste into Australian-made products. Together we are closing the loop on waste.

We love what you do ♡

RECYCLING CUPS AT MAJOR EVENTS

Closed Loop Site Services are now collecting coffee cups at major events such as Floriade (ACT Government Events), Melbourne Flower and Garden Show, Sydney NYE Festival, and Ironman.

RECYCLE TO DONATE.png

For every cup recycled in January and February last year, Closed Loop donated $0.01 to help wildlife affected by bushfires, raising more that $15,000.

The scale of Australia’s bushfire crisis was unprecedented, and wanted to support the recovery. Rather than linking donations to sales, we decided to to motivate people to recycle instead of sending their cup to landfill.  The campaign worked, with January and February being two of our best months of the year.

Donations were sent to Wires Wildlife Rescue (NSW), and Wildlife Victoria.

Thanks again for your support.

Closed Loop is continuing to partner with more technologies that can transform coffee cups into items of higher value. Our vision is to see Australian companies buying products made from their waste.

PAKPAVE

RECYCLED ROAD SURFACING

PAKPAVE is the world’s first road surface made with recycled packaging, including recycled cups. The first test road was laid in 2020, with production on Australian roads due in 2021.

Cups are processed into CLESmix, which may then be  mixed with rocks, sand, bitumen, recycled road, recycled glass, using upto 50% recycled material. Testing is showing that PAKPAVE road surfaces are more durable, have higher noise absorption, reduced water spray and better skid resistance.

This solution has the potential to recycle every cup in Australia.
